Sleepy beach towns up and down the East Coast were full of energy leading up to what would be one of the better stretches of swell anyone had seen in years. Hurricane Joaquin was the topic of conversation everywhere you turned. Even your neighbor who hadn’t surfed since ’92 was chatting you up about, “this one wave he caught during this one swell and”… it didn’t matter; waves were on the way.

After chasing the swell around Florida, Justin Quintal, made his way to one of his favorite, yet fickle, spots. There he crawled into finely groomed remnants of the fading swell. Experimenting with a single-fin-mid-length gun, Quintal, pulled into medium-sized tube after medium-sized tube with no one else out.
